COUNSELLING SERVICES
All of us can use some help occasionally to cope with the problems that arise in our lives. Issues including marital dilemmas, conflicts between parents and children, workplace or employment issues, depression, life-altering changes, illness or disability, aging, interfaith issues – the list is virtually endless.
| Jewish Family Services offers counselling to individuals, couples, and families
for all life challenges,including separation, divorce, parenting difficulties,
stress, loss, and depression. Counselling can assist people to develop and
strengthen new communication and coping skills. |

Services include crisis
intervention, behaviour modification, referrals, and therapies of varying
duration. Licensed counselling practitioners assist
counselling clients to explore available choices and offer support in setting
and reaching goals.
Counselling is available for children and adolescents. Psychoeducational testing and evaluation for children ages six to sixteen is
available.Advocacy is also available for those requiring assistance in
accessing resources in the community.
All JFS counsellors have Masters Degrees in their chosen disciplines and are registered members of their professional associations. They receive supervision on a regular basis and access professional development opportunities. For bios of all the JFS counsellors, click here.
Prospective clients may self-refer or be referred by others. All inquiries about counselling will be directed to the Intake Worker, who will assist you to consider your service options and will address the issue of fees. The waiting time depends upon availability of counsellors. At the most, clients might have to wait for up to two weeks for service.
All services offered by counsellors at Jewish Family Services are provided with strict respect for confidentiality, except where someone is a danger to himself or others or as a result of a court subpoena. To read our Privacy Policy, click here.
Counselling is offered on a fee-for-service basis, to be determined according to a sliding scale, based upon income and family size. Note that JFS now has coverage for counselling through most benefits and EAP
packages. No one will be denied service because of inability to
pay.
Jewish Bereavement Support Group
JFS Ottawa, in cooperation with the Soloway Jewish
Community Centre, is offering a workshop help those grieving
the loss of a loved one.

JFS is proud to announce that it is a counselling partner in the Victims Quick Response Program (VQRP) of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. When the funding for those who have qualified for VQRP ends, JFS will assess clients who wish to continue their counselling journey according to a sliding scale, in order to allow for continued work with the same counsellor. The fee will be assessed according to the client’s income and the number of dependents he/she has.
