JOB SEARCH WORKSHOPS
As part of the Local Agencies Serving Immigrants (LASI) consortium, JFS offers job search workshops through the World Skills Employment program. These 3-day workshops are offered at JFS once a month, and there is no charge to attend. The only eligibility requirement is that the participant be a newcomer to Canada (5 years or less, landed immigrant, or convention refugee).

The workshop provides comprehensive job search training that is designed specifically for newcomers. All workshops are free for Landed Immigrants

    Topics include:
  • Techniques for contacting employers Sources of job leads
  • Understanding worker's rights
  • Successful interview techniques
  • Effective resume and cover letter writing techniques

All workshops take place at 9:00 am at Jewish Family Services, 2255 Carling Avenue, Suite 301.


JOB PREPARATION WORKSHOPS
These 2 day workshops are open to all Canadian citizens who are under- or un-employed, part-time, or contemplating a career change. Workshops will be 6 hours in length, split equally over 2 days, from 5:00-8:00pm. The cost per workshop is $100., with a sliding scale available to those who are unable to pay the full amount. Workbooks and light refreshments will be provided.

Each workshop will focus on 5 key areas:

  • Effective mental frameworks for pursuing work
  • Proactive marketing of skills and competencies
  • Resume and covering letter preparation
  • Building and accessing the job network
  • Interviewing skills and techniques
