Jewish Family Services' Street Outreach
Reaching Out to Our Homeless Community
One Person at a Time
Jewish
Family Services' partnership with StreetSmarts began
in the spring of 2001. We help homeless individuals from
all racial, cultural, gender, age and religious groups.
Our clients are on the streets for a number of reasons,
including sexual abuse, family violence, drug addiction,
lack of employment opportunities, family breakdown and,
most notably, issues of mental health.
We offer support and reach out to this population, both before and after they become homeless.
Our team is made up of former homeless and drug involved people, who are trained to help and walk with Streetsmarts volunteers.
Our team is on the street each night,
walking in the market area, giving out socks, toiletries, granola
bars, and support. Counselling is also available.
